Philosophy on Mental Health

Extensive experience in clinical social work has validated my graduate school teachings that we are a product of our biology, psychology, and social experiences. All have a major impact on how we manage our complex lives. My emphasis is on helping the client to access strengths which are useful in problem solving. Pathology is addressed as an interference to satisfactory and satisfying functioning. The ultimate goal is a more fulfilling life experience. Creating an atmosphere where the client feels comfortable in exploring troubling issues is critical to the success of therapy. Whatever techniques are used, the client is a partner in the treatment. Educating the client on the issue and providing useful tools for everyday application lead to a sense of competence and the ability to deal with similar future issues. After many years in the field, I have a great respect for my clients and their resiliency. I am grateful for the privilege of working with them.

I earned my BA from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, and my Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of Maryland, in Baltimore, Maryland. I completed an internship at the University of Maryland Psychiatric Institute and was a clinical social worker in the Child Out-Patient Department at Sheppard Pratt Hospital, Towson, Maryland. The majority of my career has been spent in private practice.
