How do I choose a Therapist?

As with most things in this field, there is no one right straightforward answer to that question.  However, the most important factor in selecting a therapist is choosing someone with whom you (and if applicable, your son or daughter) feel comfortable.  Many competent, well-trained, and skilled psychologists, social workers and counselors are available, but not everyone is going to be the right fit for every person or every family.  It is worthwhile to invest some time and effort in getting a good referral and especially in interviewing a few different therapists or different types, and picking the one whose style feels most comfortable to you.  When you first meet a therapist, you probably should be interviewing each other.
