Philosophy of Mental Health

I believe that prioritizing your mental health is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. There are too many people trying to avoid, deny, and distract themselves from the pain they are feeling. Sometimes this pain is due to childhood trauma. Sometimes this pain is due to a loved one passing away. Sometimes this pain is coming from an unknown place that can't be easily traced to a particular circumstance. Whatever the case is - you deserve to be happy. You deserve to be kinder to yourself. Many people find themselves in patterns of negative self-talk, patterns of self-doubt, and patterns of self-loathing. I believe that one of the most important functions of therapy is relearning how to be kind to yourself and giving yourself the grace and forgiveness you often give to others. While my training includes behavioral and psychotherapeutic evidence based methods, I believe that every therapy session must be tailored to each individual’s constantly changing needs. I am honored to be a part of someone’s journey in the realization of their full happiness, full self-worth, and full potential.

Services

I provide individual counseling to all ages, as well as family and couples counseling. I specialize in working with young adults who are struggling with depression and anxiety, and individuals who have experienced childhood trauma. I have a background in crisis intervention, substance abuse,  trauma based disorders, and wilderness therapy.

Education and Training

I grew up in Howard County, MD and attended the public schools in this area. My undergraduate career was completed at the University of Delaware, where I received a Bachelors degree in Communication. I received my Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling from Brooklyn College, C.U.N.Y, in Brooklyn, NY. My post-masters training includes trauma informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, crisis response, addictions counseling, grief counseling, and wilderness therapy. I am also trained in Brainspotting, which is a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.

Personal Statement

I have a variety of hobbies which include tennis, ping pong, hiking, camping, and watching movies. I love spending time with my family and friends, especially my husband and daughter.
