Philosophy on Mental Health

Transitions of any kind can be difficult and stressful and can lead to a new beginning. Moving up to the next school level, graduating college, the process of adulting, family changes and retirement are areas of focus. I specialize working with adolescents, adults, and their families to assist in these transitions and mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse and other issues impacting the individual. I strongly believe in concentrating on the client’s individual strengths to cultivate their own resilience. Using short and long term goals, I support clients to move in a positive direction and help boost their confidence and motivation. When appropriate, collaboration with family members to support the needs of the client and the family is an integral part of the process.

Education and Training

I have my Bachelor of Science from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. Since 2010, my clinical training occurred in diverse settings including schools, outpatient mental health centers, intensive outpatient mental health centers and substance abuse facilities. I also have experience and training in building executive functioning skills and running leadership groups for teens.

Services

I work with adolescents, adults and families and employ a range of practices to enhance the client’s well-being including supportive psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I have experience working with clients with ADHD, high functioning ASD, LGBTQ individuals, and families. I run groups for middle and high school aged students and have presented on parenting, student success, and mental health for local organizations.

Personal Statement

I am originally from Maryland and have lived in Columbia for the past fifteen years. I enjoy spending time cooking, gardening, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. In addition to my work at Crossroads, I am a school counselor at the St. Paul’s School and worked previously for many years at Glenelg Country School.
